Machine learning is a fast-growing topic today and this article will help you learn what is it, basic concepts, and how it works. This article will not go into great depth into each topic and instead will give you a brief overview.

“Machine Learning is the science of getting computers to learn and act like humans do, and improve their learning over time in autonomous fashion, by feeding them data and information in the form of observations and real-world interactions.”

The definition here does an excellent job on describing what machine learning is and how it operates. Using algorithms, machine learning can predict or determine something based on data. This allows for a computer to perform an action without the specific programming for it.

There are several different machine learning algorithms usually based on learning styles or function. Regardless of either, machine learning algorithms will almost always consist of three things: representation, evaluation, optimization. Representation means a language for the computer to understand. Evaluation means the objective function of the computer. Finally, optimization means some form of search method to determine highest-scoring classifier and optimize towards that. The goal of this is to get the computer to successfully interpret data it has not discovered yet.
